Dr. David Wendler talks about the difference between research and routine medical care.
Comparison between medical research and
The research is different than medical care
Clinical research may look a lot like the normal or standard care. Sometimes it is difficult to differentiate.
Here are some of the ways that might be similar:
- He and his health care provider may be the same person.
- The environment might be their usual clinical.
- Treatments may be the same.
The research was carried out to help determine whether a treatment or procedure is good for a large group of people with a certain disease or condition. Research helps answer questions for the future health of these populations. The normal medical care, however, focuses on the individual needs in the present.
When considering enrolling your child in a study, make sure you understand the difference between normal care your child receives in the doctor and what the research involves. Even when the place and care providers are the same as in normal medical care team, find out what makes it a research study.Be sure to ask: How does this differ from regular medical care?
- Will I see different doctors and nurses for the study?
- I go to a different hospital or clinic for the study?
- Will I be doctors and nurses a lot more questions about the condition of my son?
- Will more paperwork or additional tests when we're in the studio?
- Will there be more rules and terms in the study?
Here's an example of how some things in a clinical study are the same as in the standard care, while some others are different.
...algunas veces olvido que estoy en un estudio porque todo es tan de rutina: tomo la medicina en la mañana, tomo la medicina en la noche. » "... Sometimes I forget I'm in a studio because everything is so routine: take the medicine in the morning, take the medicine at night."

...si no funciona para mi hija, es posible que funcione para otro niño y en algún momento en el futuro... "... If it does not work for my daughter, it may work for another child and at some point in the future ... as a result of our participation in this clinical study today ... »

OT Toxic Psychiatry2012-12-13 22:22:18 by Masters_apprentice
As Dr. Peter Breggin describes it in his landmark book, Toxic Psychiatry, a deal was struck. Drug companies would bankroll psychiatry and rescue it. These companies would pour money into professional conferences, journals, research. In return, they wanted science that would promote mental disease as a biological fact, a gateway into the drugs. Everyone would winexcept the patient.
So the studies were rolled out, and the list of mental disorders expanded. The FDA was in on the deal as well, as evidenced by their drug approvals, in the face of the obvious damage these drugs were doing
